Colour coding of individual nutrients (v3)

Through the colour codes assigned to individual nutrients PC-Horse allows you to keep track of the origin of the values listed in your feeds. Through the colour codes you will get an additional tool for your quality control of the feed which you give your horses.

Colour coding of the nutrient VALUE.

GREEN or YELLOW? - A green value originates from a laboratory datafile or from a guaranty feed. A yellow value is a recommended value from a template feed provided by PC-Horse when you created a feed of your own, or imported a feed as an xml-file (from a laboratory).

Nutrients with a green value are the most reliable. They contain exact numbers from an analysis of your own roughage. Concentrates and vitamin- and mineral mixtures with this coulour coding are equally reliable, as they are given by feed producers collaborating with PC-Horse, or originate from official feed tables.

Nutrients with  a yellow value are taken from template feeds which you have selected, or which were included when you imported a feed analysis file. These values may be changed. Template feed data will never be 100% representative for your own roughage, since wether, soil and harvest conditions and botanical composition will always vary. However, since template feeds are taken from official feed tables, they will in most sitiuations be more reliable than values you have entered yourself from your own sources. In addition, the template feeds gives "a best estimate" for all the minerals and vitamins which are not analysed routinely in roughages.

NOTE! A value of 0 with yellow or green mark means that the amount of this nutrient is zero (0) in the feed.

Worth noting when it comes to your own user settings!

RED - After changing a value (and saved the feed) so changing the background color to red.
Then you know that this is a value that you yourself are responsible. Keep in mind that there is a risk of making mistakes. You might read on the bag where the values are given in%. You might have an import feed in which the protein is crude protein and not digestible protein (what the horse can assimilate). You may have been told that some "natural" additives in the feed to have magical properties of certain nutrients so you should write down the value of this.

The same thing happens when you choose to create a custom feed without using the template feed. Then open the new food with all values in red and with 0 values. And it is logical because it is You who have taken the decision to start your feed without values. These can then modify as you wish.

The blue color indicates only that it is the value that is currently selected.
